No known exploitation. EPSS puts it in the 36th percentile. No fix published yet.

Published Updated Sources: CVE.org, NVD

What to do

No fixed build or workaround is published yet. Limit exposure and watch for a patch.

Steps

Written by AI from the record
  1. Check whether you run Apache Syncope in any affected version range.
  2. Review accounts allowed to create or manage Implementations; remove that permission from accounts that do not strictly need it.
  3. No verified fixed version is available in the findings; contact Apache Syncope or your support provider for the approved remediation version and upgrade plan.
  4. Investigate recent Implementation and custom Groovy Command changes for unfamiliar scripts or empty argument configurations.

What it is

From the CVE record

Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') vulnerability in Apache Syncope. An administrator with adequate entitlements for Implementations can create a malicious Groovy Command class containing untrusted code in their CommandArgs static implementation, bypassing the Groovy security sandbox. This issue affects Apache Syncope: from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, from 4.0.0-M0 Through 4.0.7, from 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.0.8 / 4.1.3, which fix this issue.

In plain language

Written by AI from the record

Apache Syncope versions 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2 have a serious flaw that needs urgent attention if anyone can manage its custom components.

High-privileged authenticated code injection in Apache Syncope: an administrator entitled to manage Implementations can create a Groovy Command with empty CommandArgs to bypass the Groovy sandbox and run unauthorized server commands.
