CVE-2026-20349
Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance and Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software Remote Access SSL VPN Denial of Service Vulnerability
Exploited in the wild. In CISA KEV since 2026‑08‑11. A vendor fix is available.
What to do
The vendor has published a fix. Version details are below where the sources state them.
Steps
Written by AI from the record- Check whether you use Cisco Secure Firewall ASA software or Cisco Secure Firewall FTD software with the Remote Access SSL VPN service enabled on any internet-reachable systems.
- Verify your installed software version(s) against the Cisco advisory for CVE-2026-20349.
- Upgrade/apply the vendor remediation from Cisco’s security advisory for CVE-2026-20349 to a fixed version listed there.
- If you cannot patch immediately, follow Cisco’s mitigations guidance for this specific CVE and reduce exposure (for example, restrict access so the affected SSL VPN endpoint is not broadly reachable from the internet).
- After changes, confirm the device remains stable and monitor for unexpected reloads and VPN access errors.
What it is
From the CVE record
A vulnerability in the Remote Access SSL VPN service for Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability is due to insufficient error checking when processing HTTP requests. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to the Remote Access SSL VPN service on an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.
In plain language
Written by AI from the recordThis is a Cisco SSL VPN denial-of-service bug that can be triggered remotely without login to make the firewall reboot; most small businesses that expose this VPN to the internet should treat it as urgent and patch quickly.
CVE-2026-20349 is a remote denial-of-service issue in Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) / Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Remote Access SSL VPN caused by insufficient error checking in HTTP request handling, allowing unauthenticated attackers to send crafted requests that can force unexpected reloads.
If you're affected
- Firewall reboot and service outage
- VPN access disruption for customers
- Potential loss of internal connectivity
- Increased incident response cost
Exploitation

- CISA KEV
Listed as exploited in the wild since 2026-08-11.
US federal agencies must remediate by 2026-08-14.
Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
